The Newseum is so vast it's possible to spend an entire day meandering through its exhibits and theaters. It's about three times the square footage of its predecessor, which had been housed across the river in Arlington, Va. Behind both museums is the Freedom Forum, a nonprofit group founded by Allen Neuharth, who created USA Today. Its motto is free press, free speech, and free spirit for all people.
In this photograph of the interior, the Bell 206B JetRanger III, one of the world's most popular news helicopters, is visible. Also in the 90-foot-high atrium is a replica of a communications satellite.
On the second floor is a broadcast studio, complete with studio makeup, where would-be announcers can try their hand at television. In the same area is a video game that lets would-be reporters try their hand at investigative journalism. (Hint: sometimes you have to go back to sources and ask follow-up questions.)
