The Soviet Union's launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite in 1957 led to the creation of NASA, the start of the space race, the beginning of the Apollo program and the moon landings 12 years later.

But the launch that precipitated those events, judging by the lengths of their respective Wikipedia entries, isn't nearly as important in the history of civilization as the launch of Rocketboom, a daily video blog that once starred Amanda Congdon.

Likewise, NASA's entry is less than half the length of the Star Wars entry. After all, what's more interesting? Government agencies that can barely get telescopes to work or thrilling light saber duels between Darth Sidious and Jedi Master Mace Windu?

Here are the word counts for some pairs of Wikipedia entries on space and some related terms:

Sputnik: 865
Rocketboom: 1,844

NASA: 4,165
Star Wars: 10,011
