San Francisco was one of several cities across the country where the Black Carpet events took place, but Cohen, in character as Borat, chose this premiere to make a surprise visit. The crowd, mostly young males, erupted when Cohen made his entrance. Fans mobbed the actor, hugging him and high-fiving him, as others hastily grabbed their camera phones. Cohen stayed in character as the Kazakh TV journalist with no concept of American cultural norms and a compromised command of English, making off-color jokes about some of his MySpace fans and offering the two-cheek kiss to his admirers.
