Along with obituaries, often times news stories are prepared in advance, as was the case with this Los Angeles Times story that got mistakenly
published stating that Barack Obama had chosen his former arch-rival, Hillary Clinton, to be his vice presidential candidate. That was among a set of articles published, each naming a different running mate, that disappeared from the Times' Web site few hours after they were published.
The choice of Clinton was described as pairing "two rivals who waged a protracted--and sometimes antagonistic--battle for the party's presidential nomination" and warned that her "placement on the Obama ticket could renew scrutiny of the Clintons' financial dealings, including the undisclosed donors who have contributed to the Clinton presidential library."
Think of it as a "Dewey Defeats Truman" moment for the online world.
