Editors note: This gallery was originally published September 20. Since then, two incidents cropped up that we just couldn't resist adding to the collection.

Bloggers, editors, publicists--really anyone with access to a Web publishing tool--know that sinking feeling when you realize you've hit the publish button accidentally or in haste. You can't take it back--it's already out there in cyberspace--and there are often significant consequences or at least major embarrassments.

The latest such gaffe happened Friday morning when an ad for Republican presidential candidate John McCain appeared on The Wall Street Journal site.

The ad declared McCain the winner of the presidential debate against Barack Obama--a half-day before the debate was set to start and before McCain had even announced his decision to re-enter the debate.
