Guerrilla builders calling themselves the Mad Housers have been building huts for the homeless for two decades. Their work began when a pair of architecture students erected more than 100 huts from salvaged wood for homeless people in Atlanta. Similar structures appeared throughout the Midwest and in California throughout the '90s, but many were demolished by local authorities. Today's Mad Housers continue their mission as a nonprofit collective of volunteers.
