Photos: Revving up data transfer

Samsung's SH-S183L is an 18x DVD-writing drive. Although it's not an external drive using eSATA, it's an early example of an optical drive available using SATA rather than the parallel data-transfer interface that currently prevails. The industry shift to SATA optical drives mean more SATA connections will be required on PC motherboards.
