Steve Jobs picked John Sculley to be Apple's CEO in 1983 with his famous line, "Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water, or do you want a chance to change the world?" But Sculley started reducing the role Jobs played at the company he founded, ultimately removing him as head of Macintosh development. Jobs left in 1985. Twelve years later, after Apple spent years floundering about the tech industry, Jobs returned and reinvented the company as a digital music powerhouse.
