Thousands of people in Asia, Africa and South America use the solar-powered Mighty Light to illuminate their homes. A solar panel is mounted on the thatched roof of this home in Rajasthan, India. The waterproof, shock-proof light also can be toted around by its handle, lasting for three decades. Students of a Stanford University graduate class on design for "extreme affordability" were involved in creating both this and the Forever Bright, rival products targeted to replace kerosene lamps.
