This box is the core of the BuckEye aerial imaging system, which is used for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and 3D mapping. BuckEye combines a digital camera and lidar (light detection and ranging) system, and can be mounted in either a helicopter or a fixed-wing aircraft. It's being overseen by the Topographic Engineering Center (TEC), which is part of the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command.
