The Falcon military communications network is also taking part in the U.K. trials. Falcon, the $394 million communications network, is designed to complement and work with other military communications systems, such as BCIP5 and the Skynet 5 satellite.

This year, the network has expanded to handle multiple computers, video cameras and VoIP phones over a local-area network, or LAN, connection.

Falcon also provides RF links at up to 34Mbps and uses encryption devices to protect the radio links. Pictured are some of the cameras and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones available over Falcon, which is due to be deployed in 2010.
