Although the geography of the field is not realistic--encampments are usually housed further apart and over more difficult terrain--Gavin Saunders, a major in the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment, said the trials have "no smoke and mirrors" and that the communications setup is as it would be on a battlefield. A typical connection speed on the battlefield would be roughly 2 megabits per second.
"We make people work in the tents so they get an idea of working in the field," Saunders said. Pictured is a satellite dish near one of the tents, which house the 42 technology trials being run as part of the event.
