Team BlueSteel, a group of MIT undergrad mechanical-engineering majors, created a bicycle to help handicapped and developmentally challenged children and adults learn to ride a bike. BlueSteel members Andrew Harlan, Michal Ruchelsman, Helen Tsai and Jorge Renjifo installed training handlebars and brakes on the back of the bike for use by a riding teacher. They can be removed for those who learn how to ride alone. The bike also is designed to allow those who have trouble balancing to easily touch their feet to the ground.

"Because of the way the bike works, (someone who is petite) would be able to assist someone as large as 200 pounds," said Renjifo.
