Scientists in South Korea say that the pup seen here is the first-ever cloned canine. Also in this family portrait are his parents: an Afghan hound father (left), with whom he is genetically identical, and a Labrador surrogate mother. The whelp is known as "Snuppy," short for Seoul National University puppy. (Aug. 3, 2005)
