Intel will make the Penryn chips at this plant in Chandler, Ariz., once it is completed later this year. The company tests new chip manufacturing technologies at its research and development center in Hillsboro, Ore., before rolling them out to other sites. Intel is also planning to make 45-nanometer chips at a facility under construction in Israel, and will probably convert some existing facilities to 45-nanometer manufacturing over time.
