Gateway brings "g" to DVD player

Gateway on Thursday unveiled a version of its wireless DVD player that supports the 802.11g standard and can handle content from PCs running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 software. The ADC-320 can stream digital entertainment content, including video and slide shows, at speeds of up to 54 megabits per second, nearly five times faster than the earlier model, which supported the 802.11b Wi-Fi standard. The Media Center capabilities mean that the $199.99 DVD device can play TV content recorded using the Microsoft software.

The Poway, Calif., PC maker has been trying to reposition itself as a consumer electronics company, launching new products, including the 901 Family Room Media system, which combines PC functions with those of a TV tuner, personal video recorder and DVD player.
