Gateway confirms it was target of SEC probe

Gateway disclosed Thursday that it has been the subject of an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company said in a press release that it expects the investigation to conclude this quarter or next and does not expect the results of the inquiry to affect its current financial position, results of operations or cash flow.

The investigation began in December 2000, Gateway said. The company said it has fully cooperated with the SEC, providing the regulatory agency with documents primarily related to its fiscal year 2000. The company voluntarily restated its 2000 earnings in February 2001. A Gateway representative declined to say whether the company would restate any other financial results.
