PalmSource to aim OS at cell phones

PalmSource will update version 5.0 of its Palm operating system to target cell phones, company Chief Executive David Nagel said at a developer conference in Munich, Germany. The update is still in the works, the company said. PalmSource representatives declined to give many details on the update to version 5.0 of the OS, other than saying that it will be available to licensees next year.

Version 6 of the OS, which the company will make available to licensees on Dec. 29 and to developers on Feb. 10, also will target advanced cell phones and will focus on security for wireless data transfers.
