Asia goes BlackBerrying

As expected, Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecom launched on Monday Research In Motion's BlackBerry service in Hong Kong on its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) wireless networks. Hutchison is the first mobile carrier in Asia to make RIM's BlackBerry two-way messaging device and service available in Asia, according to the companies.

Hutchison's next target is mainland China. RIM and Hutchison will also work together to develop advanced wireless, or 3G, applications so that the companies can extend RIM's technology to Hutchison's 3G markets worldwide.
