Report: Quanta to build new iMacs

Apple Computer has signed a deal with laptop maker Quanta to build its flat-panel iMac desktop computer, according to Taiwan's United Daily News. Taiwan-based Quanta will make 1 million of the new machines, with shipments starting at 100,000 units a month beginning in the first quarter, the newspaper reported on Friday.

The newspaper's account supports a report this week from Morgan Stanley asserting that Apple had placed an initial order for flat-panel iMacs with a Taiwanese supplier. Quanta already manufactures Apple's PowerBook laptops.
