Sonicblue completes ReplayTV acquisition

Sonicblue said Thursday that it has completed its acquisition of digital video recorder company ReplayTV. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Sonicblue, which is known for its Rio line of digital-audio players, paid for the deal with 15.5 million shares--or the equivalent of $42 million as of Thursday's market close. When the deal was announced in February, Sonicblue said it would pay 16 million shares, which were worth $123 million at the time.

Sonicblue said it intends to continue licensing Mountain View, Calif.-based ReplayTV's technology to other companies to boost revenue. The purchase is part of Sonicblue's ongoing effort to remake itself from a graphics chip company into what company executives have called a "digital media company for the connected home."
