Electronic Arts lays off 200

Software maker Electronic Arts said it has eliminated 200 jobs, or 6 percent of its work force, because of consolidation related to its recent purchase of gaming site Pogo.com. When the company first announced the cuts earlier this month, it refused to disclose the number of layoffs or what percentage of its work force was affected. Before the layoffs, a spokesman said Wednesday, the company had 3,300 workers.

The Redwood City, Calif.-based company said the layoffs were directly related to its acquisition of Pogo. The cuts came from Electronic Arts' online division and from three game development studios. A company representative said the cuts are unrelated to the U.S. economic downturn.
