Palm isn't eyeing move to Symbian OS

Palm CEO Carl Yankowski on Wednesday rebuffed the notion that Palm is looking to expand its use of Symbian's operating system. In an interview, Yankowski said the handheld maker is not in talks with Psion or the Symbian consortium to expand its relationship in any way. Palm is already working with Nokia to develop a combination cell phone/handheld computer that uses the Palm operating system on top of Symbian's OS.

In a speech at the Banc of America Securities' Technology Week Conference in San Francisco, Yankowski also said Palm is on track to ship its new crop of handhelds this spring. Yankowski showed a prototype of one of the new devices, a Palm V-like device with a color screen and postage stamp-size expansion slot. Palm also announced Wednesday that it has shipped version 4.0 of its Palm Desktop software.
