August launch for Sprint?

Sprint PCS intends to launch its new cell phone network August 10, Audiovox Chief Executive Philip Christopher said Tuesday. The handset maker's "Thera" smart phone, already being sold by Verizon Wireless, will be among the phones Sprint PCS plans to debut, he said. A Sprint PCS spokesman did not return calls seeking comment. The company has closely guarded the date for the launch of its "third generation" telephone network using a faster version of Qualcomm's CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) phone software. Christopher made his comments to analysts Tuesday during a quarterly conference call.
