Short Take: Axient signs deal with NBCOlympics.com

Axient Communications, a new content distribution company, introduced its streaming media service "Octane" and announced a deal with NBCOlympics.com. A partnership between NBC and Quokka Sports, NBCOlympics.com will use Axient's technology to deliver broadcast video of the summer games to the United States from Australia via the Internet. Axient competes against Akamai Technologies, Digital Island, iBeam Broadcasting and a host of other Web content distribution firms.
