about the only better deal out there is project gutenberg which has just about every book worth reading (for free) or (for nonfiction) wikipedia which has current information (for free)

hmmm...maybe, it's because some ideas are freely available (like zip, javascript, .pdf, etc) whereas others have someone charging $2.99 for them.
