Salon.com CFO steps down

Online publisher Salon.com announced management changes on Thursday, including the resignation of its chief financial officer and a member of the board of directors.

CFO Robert O'Callahan stepped down to pursue other interests, the company said in a statement. Joining the company as interim CFO is Elizabeth Hambrecht, co-founder and director of Asiacontent.com. In addition, George Hirsch has joined the board of directors, replacing Brian Dougherty, who left to spend more time on another venture. Hirsch is Worldwide Publisher Emeritus of "Runner's World" magazine at Rodale.

Salon's sharp essays and hard-hitting reporting have attracted a devoted following since its launch in 1995 by former San Francisco Examiner staffers. But the publicly traded company has struggled to turn a profit--relying on funding from private backers, including Adobe Systems founder John Warnock, to remain a going concern.
