Salon subscriptions top 35,000

Web magazine Salon.com says it has surpassed 35,000 paying readers and that subscriptions supply 30 percent of the company's revenue. The company offers three fee-based services: Salon Premium, Table Talk and The Well. Salon offers plans ranging from $6 a month to $50 for two years of Salon Premium; subscriptions for The Well run between $15 a month and $180 a year.

Like many online media companies, Salon has been hit hard by an advertising slump and has turned to subscriptions to try to offset its losses. The company did not say how much money subscription revenue is contributing to its financial health.
