IE stomping out Navigator

In the past two years, Microsoft's Internet Explorer has stolen a large portion of the browser market from Netscape's Navigator, according to a new report. Among browser users, 87 percent turn on IE, compared with the 12 percent that use Navigator, according to WebSideStory, which tracks Internet usage trends. The remaining Web surfers use other, unspecified browsers.

Two years ago, 64.6 percent of people used IE to browse the Internet, while 33.4 percent used Navigator. Most of the shift in the market took place in 1999 and early 2000, said WebSideStory. In June of 2000, IE commanded 86 percent of the browser market.
