Short Take: Metallica to chat online about Napster

Heavy metal band Metallica said it will discuss its decision to sue music-swapping start-up Napster in a live online chat Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. PST. According to the band's Web site, fans can post questions to band members Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Jason Newsted 30 minutes prior to the chat by visiting artistdirect.com or chat.yahoo.com. Napster, which allows members to trade MP3 music files, has been sued by the Recording Industry Association of America and individual artists for allegedly facilitating music piracy. But other artists have thrown their support behind the start-up, such as Limp Bizkit, which has agreed to a Napster-sponsored tour.
