Orbitz hires eBay tech exec

Travel site Orbitz has named the former head of technology at eBay as its chief technology officer, the company said Monday. At his new post, Christopher Hjelm will be responsible for all aspects of Orbitz technology, including leading technology strategies, engineering, architecture and site operations, the company said.

Hjelm stepped down as senior vice president for technology at eBay in February in the midst of the auction giant's introduction of a new system architecture. Hjelm led eBay's efforts to increase site reliablity and stability during the site's ongoing surge in popularity. Prior to eBay, he spent 14 years at Federal Express, where he served as senior vice president and chief information officer.
