StarOffice reaches German milestone

Sun Microsystems announced on Thursday that its main German distributor has sold more than a million copies of the StarOffice productivity software. Markement provides software to PC makers and retailers in Germany, where StarOffice originated from specialty software maker Star Division, which was later acquired by Sun.

Sun is in the midst of a broad campaign to promote StarOffice and other key desktop applications as low-cost alternatives to products from Microsoft, which dominates the productivity software market with Office.
