Western Digital releases FireWire hard drives

Western Digital announced Tuesday two new external hard drives with FireWire and USB 2.0 ports for connecting to PCs. The drives come in 120GB and 200GB capacities and have a rotational speed of 7,200rpm.

The Lake Forest, Calif.-based company is targeting the drives as convenient backup products as well as a simple solution for those consumers who are quickly building up a large collection of digital music and images. The drives are backward compatible with USB 1.1 ports and are available immediately. The 120GB drive sells for $299, and the 200GB drives is selling for $399.
