Coin the word GoogleRizon
by Shannon Michael October 31, 2007 12:37 PM PDT
In light of the Google & Verizon talks reported by the WSJ, a offspring or cross-breed by those two companies should appropriately be coined GoogleRizon.

The name has a nice ring to it. Like the ring of cash registers ringing up sales. It also seems to be the relevant word combination for the names of the two companies cited in the WSJ article. Plus.... It has a nice play on words, in light
of the fact that only a few days ago Google's stock price was near the $600 range and today, it is valued closed to $700/share.

Personally I feel the best is yet to come for Google. Given the ad-supported free mobile phone business strategy, they are establishing a "I am all to you" perception in the eye of the public. The other telecoms best jump on board this opportunity before it pass them by.

Shannon McPherson is a Bryn Mawr College student social activist that is campaigning for the use of ad-supported free mobile phone and Internet services to decrease the digital divide.

IP Hoggs
by Grumpyz77 October 31, 2007 3:54 PM PDT
This should be real interesting as Google is a bigger IP hog than any of the carriers. Sprint is the most vulnerable of the phone companies and will be the first to quickly pimp themselves to Google. The upshot of this is that innovation, as we know it, will come to a virtual halt. What we will see is recycled garbage that will be touted as innovation. One look under the hood will quickly show it for what it is, stale, recycled garbage. This is truly a sad thing. We, in the US, already have the largest laggard 3rd world network of any nation on earth. I can already get Google on any cell phone. Just wait until someone tries to run a Google app on the iPhone. It will be a slow painful death.

Multimedia Hogwarts
by Quemannn November 2, 2007 10:04 AM PDT
Google may think mobile carriers are the gatekeepers for mobile multimedia and may need to build up ties with mobilbe carriers.Google may have dreamed of building a new multimedia Hogwarts. But things are changing. Nokia is tranforming itself into a multimedia giant and has secured a strategic position by acquiring Navteq in a pre-emptive bid to enter the LBS arena. We are going to see a lot of intriguing scenes in the fast-evolvoing mobile broadband industry from now on.
