Why assume the 'propitary upgrades' are somthing the average open-source user would actually want?<br /><br />As a somewhat cynical guess, I'd assume these "upgrades" are mearly something along the lines of applying a DRM wrapper on the fly, or some sort of stealthed manditory seeding the 'user' can't control or disable.

Very good, sophisticated treatment of this item. There is a very good reason that so many content companies have bought into the BitTorrent story. Can you say disintermediation? Absolutely a central concept in this space going forward, with or without hindrance from big cry babies like Wal-Mart.
