I guess you could say "Oh Wu is me to take a break from all the container ships polluting the ports".
It's not like they are delivering anything more important than Hollywood could come up with.

China

Out of all the chinese people that have computers, less than 300 of them actually paid for Windows Vista. To me, this says something very important that Microsoft keeps ignoring: Windows Vista COSTS TOO MUCH!

Maybe if it didn't cost so much people would be willing to pay for it, but now, that would actually make some sense and we can't have that!

Income
by Phillep_H April 24, 2007 3:36 PM PDT
They can live on a couple dollars a day, and that's about all they get paid a day. Very few could afford to pay full price. I'm NOT saying Vista is reasonably priced, I would not know and have no intention of finding out, just that you are using a flawed criteria.
actually, M$ products should cost less over there
by ackmondual April 26, 2007 6:52 AM PDT
M$ did a thing (dunno if it's been implemented yet and if so, how well), but it goes something like this. M$ products like Win and Office will cost less in areas with less income. If you move from that lower income country to a higher income country (like from China to US), u pony up the diff for the licensing fees. Interetingly enough, they don't refund the diff if it's vice versa. Dunno how much Vista would cost there, but I've been told by family that a young male secretary at around 20yo makes about $1,200 US a year. Rent in a city like Shanghai isn't cheap. That's not a whole lot of $$ left.
China Complaining About...What Again???
by `WarpKat April 24, 2007 8:13 AM PDT
So basically China is saying this:

"We know our people pirate your American stuff, and we spanked a couple - so stop complaining or we will stop doing anything for you."

Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if that wall had never gone up...

Say what?
by pwoon April 24, 2007 7:14 PM PDT
So what exactly are you saying? That China needs America more than America needs them? Think again. Their civilization is 5000 years old and was down for around 200 years. Now they're back. Watch out. How old is America? Try 230, and already on the downward spiral.

About what??? Enforcing International Copyright laws?? They want our business...play by the rules.

If China is not going to take International Laws seriously, maybe we should quit doing business with them.

Nothing like keeping American goods and services American.

Never happen

Americans today care about one thing, and one thing only. They
want their products to be CHEAP. China has CHEAP labor, and as
long as that's how America makes her purchasing decisions (based
solely on "How CHEAP can I buy it"), we'll be playing ball on China's
court.

America Complaining.......
by m.o.t.u. April 24, 2007 2:57 PM PDT
what's the problem? The most populated country on our planet copying & distributing gems of American Culture, where's the downside? China is already developing a taste for unrestrained consumerism, couldn't you cut them a bit of slack, after all, they really just want to be like you. Isn't that the preferred outcome globally?

Well the Chinese don't want to, wise guy
by godam_registration April 26, 2007 11:45 AM PDT
That's the whole point! China neither passes the laws to prevent piracy nor enforces the few laws they passed! They are proud for having passed 14 laws and filed 6500 cases.

Well there's 10000 more, and in 90% of the cases no one pays attention to some Chang Wang who pirates CDs or operates a server farm from his basement. The Chinese gov't does not care because pirated software BENEFITS their economy. Let the silly imperialists spend millions to develop new software, while our comrades get it for free.

What choice does the U.S. have except to sue their pants of in the U.N.?

Undercut the pirates???
by craiglarry April 24, 2007 2:29 PM PDT
Do you believe in the magical power of words? Say undercut and all problems disappear, right? The pirates are everyone, everyone in China is in complicity. Everything is pirated here and much of it goes abroad, but it doesn't have to go abroad to severely hurt the victims, that is, the producers of these products. If you can't say anything more helpful than this, you should stop posting and listen for a while until you get a clue what the problems are.

Americans would do it too
by pwoon April 24, 2007 7:05 PM PDT
If they could copy stuff. Let's face it, wouldn't you want to get music, videos, free? wait, that's called bittorrent...... OK. If Americans could manufacture handbags, sneakers, for next to nothing, but wait, American wages are too high, so copying a product is useless, since the price of the copy might just be the same as the original.

That is true

American copy stuff all the time. Computer programs, computer games, console games...... we copy a HELL of a lot of stuff.

I'll even admit that I have copied stuff that is patented, though only when I cannot get the original game or software anymore.

The United States needs to step back and think about: "Hmm..... Are our people doing things like this? Yes. Are we going after them? No, because it is NOT worth the money and time to do so!"

People are just going to have to get used to piracy, and realize that much of the piracy takes place because the original, legal thing costs too much or is not worth what they are wanting to charge for it.

short-term memory disabled, leaves Thomas,David unable to recall cold blooded shooting of Black Students during 1960's in America. This article is about Commerce & Trade, not looking for skeletons in closets - which Nation State has an empty closet anyway?
China thieves
by badsinger April 26, 2007 12:33 PM PDT
Our past administrations opened free trade with this country. We knew they were not our allies.
Look at the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. It's time we protect ourselves and say China you can take it or preferrably leave it.

A Reason for Pre-emptive Nuclear War
by aaydogan April 26, 2007 3:14 PM PDT
Piracy is the least of our worries. The Chinese now consume
more resources than any other country (we still consume more
per capita). That means that they are competing for the things
that make our lifestyle "American." They have no interest in
dialogue or cooperation with us. They only want to do whatever
will maintain the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), nothing more
than a clique of thugs, in power. Why not put our arsenal of
nuclear weapons to good use and wipe them off the face of the
earth before they become an even bigger threat. Who is going
to object? Who is going to fight back? It might even show the
rest of the world that we mean business.

Then again maybe we should put some thought into developing
a national energy policy, rebuild our education system and
actually reclaim our place on top of the food chain,
