This is a good move. This was almost inevitable. They could continue to fight a losing battle trying to lock down every second of content or they could accept the new world and realize people linking to, passing around and promoting their content is a good thing.
They took the high road and sacrificed what some execs still view as "potential profit" for the viral marketing model that is the future.
Rather than suing their customers, they're empowering them. Goodwill is invaluable.
