With any luck, they will learn from this and take steps to prevent a re-occurrence.

Support computers long enough and chances are good you will get bit like the crew at Business 2.0. But if you survive, and are smart, you will not only remember to do your backups, but test your backups often.

How often depends on how much data you can afford to lose. We do test restores every 2 weeks, YMMV.
