Newman stuck in the past.
"The search engine has to get a straightforward, factual headline, so it can understand it," Newman said."

Newman is a dolt. How about a straigtforward factual headline SO WE can understand it. We are sick of the distortion and sensationalism.

I love the "google comes along" quote. This guy clearly has no idea he's going to end up in the unemployment line unless he adapts with the rest of us.

Didn't Google Ban Amazon.....
....because of such "slight of hand" programming? Deceiving the
robots while continuing to appeal to a real audience. That's sound
exactly like what Amazon was doing to Google.

Journalism has always needed manipulation to attract readers
This is nothing new. Journalism is as much a business as it is as
an enterprise that purports to objectively inform the public at
large. In an era of ever-declining readership, news organizations
have to do whatever it takes to bring in readers/viewers.
Manipulating headlines to achieve prime placement in search
engine results underscores the importance of the bottom line in
contemporary 'big' media organizations. Unfortunately what this
does to the art of journalism in the aggregate is better left
unsaid.
