Netscape Replaces Search Engine

Netscape Communications today announced that it will replace its InfoSeek search engine with Architext Software's Excite.

The Excite search engine allows users to search 1.5 million Web pages, Usenet classified advertisements from the past two weeks, 1 million articles from 10,000 newsgroups, and a database of 35,000 Web site reviews, according to Excite officials. Excite also includes news, cartoons, and editorial columns.

Excite was launched in early October and claims two million hits per day.
