Net security a top concern

Finjan Software today introduced a low-end version of its server software that can block hostile Java applets that sneak through firewalls and routers.

Finjan, which has reached agreements with nine firewall software vendors to back its technology, today unveiled SurfinCheck, designed to protect small to midsized companies with Internet connections.

SurfinCheck, a scaled-down version of Finjan's SurfinGate server software, scans for Java applets and wards off suspicious or hostile code.

SurfinCheck, priced at $695 for ten Windows NT users, gives small organizations the chance to take advantage of some of the features of the company's SurfinGate product, without paying the $6,250 list price.

The company plans to make additional, unspecified security-related announcements next week, a source close to the company said.
