A student at Monmouth University in New Jersey has been charged for crashing Monmouth's email system by sending email bombs to two university administrators. According to a report by the Associated Press, Dominick LaScala could face a maximum penalty of six years behind bars and a $350,000 fine.
According to the report, LaScala knew what he was doing when he sent 24,000 random-text messages that damaged the system. The messages were traced by FBI agents and system operators.
LaScala has a history of email mischief. He recently was asked to stop posting commercial messages on the Net and refused. LaScala, a Monmouth junior, will either be expelled or face other disciplinary actions, according to university officials.
