The companies today announced a strategic alliance to improve interoperability between Unix and Windows NT products from both firms, a move that could give Netscape a foot in the door of HP's high-end corporate customers.
Although details were scarce, HP and Netscape plan to
cooperate in the following areas:
--The companies will develop intranet management solutions for Unix and NT
that use Netscape's line of server products and the HP OpenView network- and
systems-management software.
--HP will resell Netscape SuiteSpot server package and FastTrack stand-alone
Web server.
--The companies will work to provide interoperability between HP OpenMail
messaging system and Netscape Mail Server so that clients and servers from
both systems can work together.
--HP will provide worldwide customer support through its force of 17,500
support personnel and consulting services for Netscape products.
The companies also announced a broad initiative to design a framework for enterprise work force collaboration, which will include promoting Internet application programming interfaces to the industry, but did not elaborate on specific products under development.
