U.K. firm sues over "AltaVista"

  • Post a comment
Alta Vista Corporation, a British company with an increasing involvement in the United States, said today it has sued Digital Equipment (DEC) for trademark infringement over its AltaVista search engine.

The U.K. firm is a media concern that markets intellectual property assets. It is unrelated to a suit Digital filed against AltaVista Technology--a Campbell, California, company--over the rights to the name "AltaVista."

It was unclear what effect the new legal claim, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., would have on the ongoing lawsuit. Representatives from Alta Vista Corporation, Alta Vista Technologies, and Digital were not immediately available for comment.
