VC watch: Ecast grabs $14 million

• Ecast announced Wednesday that it closed a $14 million sixth round of funding, led by Oak Investment Partners and previous investor DCM-Doll Capital Management. Existing investors St. Paul Venture Capital and El Dorado Ventures also contributed to the round. San Francisco-based Ecast has raised more than $40 million in all its rounds. The company delivers and manages pay-per-play digital entertainment content for nondomestic devices such as digital jukeboxes.

• Netuitive raised $11 million in a second round of funding, the software developer announced Tuesday. Investors included Bessemer Venture Partners, Columbia Capital, Flagship Ventures and Noro-Moseley. The company also announced that it named Nicola Sanna as president and chief executive. The Reston, Va.-based company, which develops software that monitors impending performance failures in data centers, has raised a total of $22 million.

• DragonWave announced Tuesday it raised an $8.3 million third round of funding. Enterprise Partners led the funding, and Best Fund and previous investor Venture Coaches participated in the round. Ottawa, Canada-based DragonWave, which supplies high-performance wireless networks, has raised a total of more than $24.6 million.

• Zilliant announced Monday that it closed a $6 million second round of funding. Investors in the round included GE Equity, Trellis Partners, Austin Ventures and DB Capital Venture Partners. Austin, Texas-based Zilliant has raised a total of $18 million. The company provides software and services designed to help define and manage pricing with discount guidelines and price promotions.

• SoloMio announced Monday it closed a $3 million second round of funding, with Austin Ventures and Techxas Ventures participating in the round. The Austin, Texas, based company has raised a total of $13 million. SoloMio provides in-call application services software designed to give mobile communications operators the ability to promote and adopt data services.

• Java application publisher Tira Wireless announced Wednesday that it raised a $3 million first round of funding. Investors in the round were Flagship Ventures and Brightspark Ventures. Toronto, Canada-based Tira Wireless publishes Java applications for mobile phones.

• Akustica raised a $2.3 million first round of funding, the company said Wednesday. The round was led by Chamberlain Investments. Pittsburgh, Pa.-based Akustica develops a system on a chip to capture, process and reproduce sound by combining the functions of a speaker or microphone with software and microelectronics.
