Victoria's Secret site up and running

Victoria's Secret tonight made its much-anticipated, blushing debut.

The lingerie company, which has both catalogs and brick-and-mortar storefronts, marks another major retailer to try Internet retailing.

The launch has been delayed several times, according to a source at the company, because of fears the site couldn't handle the heavy traffic of Netizens eager to peek at the company's famous wares and its models. Other Internet retailers have experienced not only tremendous sales volume but also technical problems handling the heavier-than-expected traffic.

Earlier today, a spokeswoman for Intimate Brands, Victoria's Secret's parent company, would say only that the site would be live before Christmas. She declined to confirm that the launch had been delayed.

Analyst Brian Postol of A.G. Edwards said he had expected Victoria's Secret to launch before Thanksgiving but didn't consider the delay a major issue.
