One more update to Apple patch

Apple Computer released an update Thursday to its latest patch, a move designed to address installation problems with a fix released earlier in the week.

After installing Apple's original Security Update 2006-002, people may find that Safari has a blank icon that won't launch the Web browser, the Mac maker said in an article on its support Web site. The problem occurs if the user moved Safari out of the applications folder before installing the update, the company said in the article.

On Apple's forum site, some people reported networking issues after installing the 2006-002 patch, which was released Monday.

Johannes Ullrich, the chief research officer at the Sans Institute, said Apple's revised patch appears to just be a fix for the earlier update. The SANS Internet Storm Center released a security advisory on Friday.

"The update appears to fix installation problems with the earlier patch, because it's not addressing any new security issues," Ullrich said.

Apple released 2006-002 v1.1 for the Mac OS X 10.45 (PPC) well as 2006-002 v1.1 for the OS X 10.45 Client (Intel).

While software makers sometimes do repair a patch within days of releasing it because of trouble, Apple's Thursday release is the third attempt to issue a glitch-free Mac OS X update. Monday's patch was in part meant to put right problems raised by an earlier security fix.

Big deal?

They make it sound like the last two attempts was a complete
failure. I have several friends install the same update and none of
us had problems. I think this attempt was to fix some of the other
minor problems just like buffing the car to showroom shine.

for most people to experience problems after installing the
previous patch. Seems to me that this is likely proactive.

What a Joke! Worse than Microsoft

Apple should really start concentrating on security. They have been left behind in this area and is only going to get worse for them. This patch on a patch on a patch doesnt bode well for the future.

They should also be more honest and transparent with the public about their security problems.

Apple response time

I hear comments like Apple is proactive and their response time is quick.

Actually the response time should start from the time they identify an issue to the time they completly fixed the issue.

So in this case the response time from Patch 1 to Patch 3 (If this patch fixes all the problems). Probably one week or more I guess!!!

Just my 2 cents.

What I really want to say is for any software company (Microsoft or Apple) it takes time to fix a identified problem. Just the life in software business.

No big deal

This "update" is only for OS X users who (for some reason) moved
the Safari application outside the Applications folder prior to
running the previous Security Update.
