Netscape endorses intranet tools

  • Post a comment
At Fall Internet World today, Netscape Communications (NSCP) gave its seal of approval to a handful of intranet development tools that it is collectively calling SuiteTools.

The company also unveiled two other tools today: an online guide called Tools for Netscape ONE and a set of Java code called theWindowing Internet Foundation Classes that allows users to design graphical user interfaces.

Netscape's SuiteTools will include a number of existing tools from other vendors, including NetObjects' Fusion 2.0, NetDynamics' NetDynamics, Symantec's Visual Caf? Pro, and Netscape's own LiveWire Pro.

The family of products is not a traditional tools suite, but rather a set of what Netscape considers the "best of breed." According to the company, the products will be sold individually by Netscape and for the same prices for which they are currently available from the respective vendors.

Still, Netscape's endorsement is a big win for the individual vendors since Netscape will market the products directly from its heavily trafficked Web site beginning in the first quarter of 1997.
