"Richard has had a positive impact on the growth of Disney Online during his two years with the company, and we wish him well in his future endeavors," a Disney spokeswoman said.
Wolpert was responsible for spearheading Disney's online efforts under Jake Winebaum, chairman of the Buena Vista Internet Group. He also led the development of a number of online initiatives, including a family-oriented Internet gateway called the Disney Internet Guide, or "Dig."
In addition, Wolpert oversaw an online service for kids called Daily Blast and Disney's own email client, called "D-mail."
Wolpert is not the first executive to leave the entertainment giant's online division. In June, former Disney Online vice president David Vogler split from the ranks to oversee the creative development for Nickelodeon's online sites including Nick.com, NickJr.com, Nick-at-Nite.com, and Teachers.nick.com.
"Winebaum, who was previously president of Disney Online, will take over as interim president" of that division, the spokeswoman added.
