SAN JOSE, Calif.--Intel chief executive Craig Barrett today said he is focusing on the chipmaker's growth rate to persuade Wall Street the company is a high-growth stock.

In an interview here at the Intel Developer Forum conference, Barrett said his goal is 15 to 20 percent annually. Intel has recently faced stiffened competition from Advanced Micro Devices and newcomer Transmeta.

Barrett also described Intel's Linux strategy, saying the company has "always been somewhat agnostic about what operating system runs on our hardware," and discussed Intel's mergers-and-acquisitions strategy.
